What is a Certificate Authority (CA)?
A Certificate Authority (CA) is a trustworthy organization that issues digital certificates to confirm the identity of systems and persons and to enable secure, encrypted communication.

What are certificates and what do I need them for?
Digital certificates serve as electronic proof of identity, similar to an ID card in real life.
They confirm the assignment of a public key to a specific person or entity.
A certificate contains essential information such as the name of the holder, the identity of the issuing body, the validity period and the intended use of the certificate.

Do you have any questions?
What are digital certificates?
Digital certificates can be used in a variety of ways.
The basic function is to confirm the identity of a person, an organization or a device.
How do I obtain a digital certificate?
You can apply for digital certificates directly from SIGN8 GmbH.
There are certificates that can be purchased individually (e.g. S/MIME) or certificates that are only available in connection with the Trust Center infrastructure (e.g. BYOK).
How is the security of a digital certificate guaranteed?
The security of a digital certificate is ensured by cryptographic procedures.
The certificate contains a public key that is digitally signed by a trusted certification authority (CA).
The integrity and authenticity of the certificate can be confirmed by verifying this digital signature.
Can I cover different use cases at the same time with SIGN8?
Of course, you can obtain a separate certificate from us for each application.
