Do you need a seal for EPREL?

You’re in the right place!

Manufacturers and importers are required to register their products in the EPREL database before offering them on the European market.

As part of the registration process, a qualified electronic seal is required to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the submitted data. As a Qualified Trust Service Provider (qTSP), we are authorized to issue qualified seals for the EPREL database. Before you can use the qualified seal, you need to submit a request for it.

We explain the process step by step in our Help Center article:

An overview of the various types of signatures and seals

Simple Electronic Signature (SES)

The simplest form of electronic signature allows for a direct association with the signer. It is particularly suitable for digitally signing documents with low legal and financial risk – for example, internal records or order confirmations where no legal or contractual requirements for a handwritten signature exist.

Advanced Electronic Signatures (AES)

Ideal for most documents used in day-to-day business that do not require a legal or contractual written form – such as purchase agreements, partnership agreements (e.g. GbR, OHG, KG), or contracts relating to patents, trademarks, and copyrights. When signing with an advanced or qualified electronic signature, you must authenticate yourself, for example via SMS, phone call, TOTP, or passkey.

Qualified Electronic Signature (QES)

Used when a legal or contractual written form is required (in accordance with §126 of the German Civil Code – BGB). The QES is considered the most secure form of electronic signature and, under Article 25 of the eIDAS Regulation, is legally equivalent to a handwritten signature. A QES may only be issued by a qualified trust service provider, such as SIGN8.
